KURNOOL: A person, who identified himself as the proprietor of a real estate firm, duped the owners of some consumer goods shops and made away with expensive appliances after issuing post-dated cheques. According to reports, a Tamil-speaking person opened an account with the Punjab National Bank branch here a month ago and opened "Raghavendra Builders and Agency" in a rented building. He later purchased electronic goods like computers and air-conditioners in bulk by issuing post-dated cheques.
More cheques
When the shopkeepers approached the bank for money on Saturday, it was found that the account had no balance. The office was also vacated on Friday night. All the goods had been transported in a truck. The shopkeepers lost around Rs 6 lakhs. The firm was said to have issued another batch of cheques dated June 26.
