HYDERABAD: There was a good response to the Olympic Day Run organised by the Andhra Pradesh Olympic Association at Lal Bahadur Stadium here on Saturday. Chief minister Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, who flagged off the event, reminded the participants that sports is the best platform to avoid rustiness in life. According to the CM, the government was sports-friendly and would never be found wanting in giving support to talented athletes. "We leave the job of unearthing talent to the associations but we feel it is our obligation to groom them by providing all the facilities. Funds will not be a problem. If you perform, we will always be there to lend a helping hand," he added. APOA vice-president K. Ranga Rao welcomed the guests and explained the significance of the Olympic movement. J. R. Anand, principal secretary, Sports, Youth Advancement and Culture, A.K. Mohanty, city police commissioner, were among the guests of honour. G. Kamala Vardhana Rao, SAAP VC & MD, took the opportunity to explain various schemes being undertaken by the Government to promote sports across the State in a big way.
WC on giant screen
SAAP has set up a giant digital screen inside the Lal Bahadur Stadium to beam the World Cup matches live. Chief secretary T.K. Dewan formally inaugurated the screen, which is part of SAAP's efforts to promote football in a big way. Football lovers can watch the matches free of cost at the venue till the end of the mega event.
Cyclists felicitated
The medal-winning cyclists from the SAAP Academy at Osmania University were felicitated for their consistent performance at the National level over the past 12 months. Coach G. Chandra Reddy briefed G. Kamala Vardhana Rao about the performances of his trainees and promised to improve upon them in the coming days.

Aegis BPO scored a 78-run win over Sun Micro in the SBH Corporate Cup flood-lit cricket tournament here. The scores: Genpact 182 for six (Naveen 44) lost to Apollo 186 for five (Kamlesh 67 not out); Franklin Templeton 131 bt MCH-Huda 127 for five (Raghupathi 48); Sun Micro 112 for nine lost to CSC 116 for one (Manu 58, Ajay 40); Aegis BPO 164 for seven (Narayana 61, Raghu four for 35) bt Sun Micro 86 (Rasheed five for 10, Krithivasan four for 24); ADP India 149 for nine (Srikanth 46) lost to Ivy Comptech 150 for six (Ashley 44).
Ramana, Harshitha win
Ch.S.S.V. Ramana of Visakhapatnam and A. Harshitha of Anantapur won the sub-junior boys and girls' singles titles in the YMCA Hyderabad State-ranking table tennis tournament here.
