Chinese Taipei paddlers win six of the eight titles

KOLKATA: The Chinese Taipei contingent finished the Indian Open junior table tennis championship in style with its top cadet girl, Cheng I-Ching, winning a triple crown and its junior boy, Chiang Hung-Chieh claiming a double at the Netaji Indoor Stadium here on Saturday.

Out of eight finals, Chinese Taipei won six. India and Hong Kong shared the other two in cadet section.

Shreya-Pooja win

India won the cadet girls' doubles through Shreya Ghosh and Pooja Sahasrabudhe and finished second best in the cadet boys' doubles and cadet girls' singles.

The results: Junior boys: Singles (final) (Indians unless mentioned): Chiang Hung-Chieh (Tpe) bt Shen Chi-Min (Tpe) 11-3, 8-11, 11-8, 11-6, 11-6. Semifinals: Chiang bt A. Koparkar 11-5, 11-5, 11-4, 11-7; Shen bt Chen Chien-An (Tpe) 12-10, 7-11, 8-11, 11-7, 12-10, 11-4. Doubles final: Chiang & Cheng Yi-Chou (Tpe) bt Chen Chien-An & Shen Chi-Min 11-8, 4-11, 13-11, 7-11, 13-11.

Junior girls (final): Cheng I-Ching (Tpe) bt Hsiung Nai-I (Tpe) 11-8, 11-6, 13-11, 11-9. Semifinals: Hsiung bt K. Shamini 15-13, 9-11, 11-3, 14-12, 11-9; Cheng bt Hou Yu-Ling (Tpe) 11-9, 11-5, 11-8, 9-11, 11-4. Doubles (final): Cheng & Hsiung bt Hou Yu-Ling & Yu Szu-Pei (Tpe) 12-10, 18-16, 11-9.

Cadet boys: Singles (final): Chen Chien-An (Tpe) bt Li Chung Him Samuel (Hkg) 11-7, 11-4, 11-5. Semifinals: Chen bt Mohit Verma 11-6, 11-7, 11-4; Li Chung bt Soumyait Ghosh 11-7, 6-11, 11-9, 11-7. Doubles (final): Li Chung & Ma Justin (Hkg) bt Soumyajit Ghosh & Raj Mondal 11-6, 11-7, 11-6.
