Carmel Garden emerges overall champion

Coimbatore: Carmel Garden MHSS and Alvernia MHSS emerged the overall boys and girls champions respectively in the first GKD memorial athletics meet here on Saturday.

It was the GKD boys and girls who had dominated the whole show. They emerged champions in both sections with 55 and 95 points respectively. However, being the host, the organising committee declared second place winners Carmel and Alvernia as overall champions. Sprint queen P.T. Usha, who was the chief guest, applauded the gesture.

The results:

Boys: Individual champions (under-12): P. Tanush (GKD, 9 points). (Under-14): N. Mohan Prasad (National Model, 10). (Under-17): M. Arunachalam (Carmel Garden, 10). (Under-19): M. Nithin (G.N. Sam, 14).

Overall champion: 1. GKD Matriculation (55); 2. Carmel Garden MHSS (38, Carmel declared champion).

Girls (under-12): V. Sarron Priya (Alvernia MHSS, 10). (Under-14): K. Samyuktha (GKD, 8). (Under-17): M. Malini (GKD, 20). (Under-19): B. Kiruthika (GKD, 10).

Overall champion: 1. GKD (95); 2. Alvernia MHSS (31, Alvernia declared champion).
