Kindling curiosity

The brouhaha over The Da Vinci Code has generated more interest in the film.

Those who have not read the book are becoming curious to find out what the Code is all about, thanks to Christian organisations.

K. Prashanth,
Udhagamandalam, T.N.

No one who has read the book will ask for a ban on the film. Dan Brown's work only strengthens the notion of God.

M. Akhil,

Kochi, Kerala
The issue is not about fact or fiction or artistic freedom. It is about the availability of adequate societal/institutional space for contending views.

To borrow Amartya Sen's argument, to impose religion as our singular identity is to dismiss our other multiple identities of atheist, agnostic, sceptic, postmodernist, and whatnot.

A society that refuses to accept and accommodate alternative views and differences is on the sure road to intellectual decay.

P.V. Srividya,
Coimbatore

The Da Vinci Code is admittedly a good work of fiction. The book sold like hot cakes all over the world.

Why then should the movie be banned? Countries where the majority is Christian have accepted the film. There is no justification in the demand for a ban in a country that treats all religions equally.

K.V. Vivek,
Hyderabad
