BANGALORE: There are two Ramachandra Gowdas in the election to the Legislative Council from the Bangalore Graduates' constituency. One is Science and Technology Minister Ramachandra Gowda, MLC, fielded by the Bharatiya Janata Party, and the other is Y. Ramachandra Gowda. The BJP is taking no chances and its pamphlets bear the tagline "Vote for the Ramachandra Gowda without an initial." Dummy ballot papers with a list of imaginary names along with that of Mr. Ramchandra Gowda is being distributed by campaigners. This, however, has made the Communist Party of India (Marxist) see red. The CPI(M) has fielded K.S. Lakshmi as its candidate and, while campaigning, party workers chanced upon the BJP pamphlet. They have shot off a letter to the Election Commission protesting against the list of "imaginary" candidates. One of the names in the list, which figures exactly where Ms. Lakshmi's name would appear on the genuine ballot paper, is Latamani K. Party general secretary Prakash K. told presspersons here that the BJP pamphlet was creating confusion among the voters, and this must be considered a violation of the election code. The CPI(M) has filed a complaint with the Chief Electoral Officer and the Bangalore Rural Deputy Commissioner.
