MYSORE: All-India Progressive Janata Dal (AIPJD) candidate for the elections to the Legislative Council from South Teachers' constituency H.A. Venkatesh has threatened to lodge a complaint with the State Election Commission for violation of the poll code of conduct by the ruling Janata Dal (Secular).

He was speaking at a press conference here on Saturday. Mr. Venkatesh alleged that Janata Dal (Secular) was not only misusing official machinery by roping in Education Department officials to campaign for its official candidate in the elections, but also using the transfer of teachers as a tool to influence the electorate.

Although the academic year had started, the Government was continuing with the process of transferring teachers. "This has instilled fear in the minds of teachers, who are the electorate for the elections", he said.

Mr. Venkatesh alleged that Janata Dal (Secular) was using Education Department officials to campaign for its official candidate P. Sharadamma in violation of code. The AIPJD candidate appealed to the election panel and the State Government to declare a holiday on the polling day of June 17 so that all eachers would be able to cast their votes.
