Rama Rao downs Jitender in light flyweight

HYDERABAD: G. Rama Rao of Andhra Pradesh defeated Jitender of Haryana on points 18-2 in the preliminary round of the light flyweight category of the Rajiv Gandhi 10th Federation Cup boxing championship at RRC Grounds here on Friday.

Rama Rao, a trainee of SAI coach Emani Chiranjeevi, showed a wonderful combination of enterprise and speed to unleash a flurry of left and right hooks to score valuable points against the much stronger opponent.

P. Ishaq stole the show in the heavyweight category outclassing Sandeep Sagar of RSPB.

Akshay and Nikhil defeated Amit Kumar and Abhishan 21-3 in the boys' under-10 doubles league phase of the Yonex-SAAP AP State open badminton tournament organised by AP Badminton Players Association at Fateh Maidan Indoor Stadium here on Friday.

Srinivasa Rao moves up

M. Srinivasa Rao of APBSA defeated Ramesh Babu of South Central Railway 100-61, 89-101, 100-97 to move into the quarterfinals of the inaugural Nizam Club inter-club billiards tournament for Tarachand Bhagwandas Solanki Memorial rolling trophy on it's premises here.

Spurthi wins title

M. Spurthi won the girls under-14 singles title defeating Mrinalini 10-7 in the AP State-ranking tennis tournament, organised by Sree Ganesh Raman Tennis Centre (Bowenpally) here ,on Friday.

The results: Boys: U-14 (semifinals): Acharya Bharadwaj bt S.M. Abdullah 9-6; Hamza Ghouse bt B. Shrinesh 9-3.

U-12 (semifinals): B. Supreeth bt M. Sashank 9-1; S.M. Abdullah w\o Y. Anutej.

Hyderabad 10K road races

AITA Talent Series

The AITA Talent Series tennis tournament for boys and girls aged between 12 and 16 will be held at Ambedkar Stadium, Gomtinagar, Lucknow from June 19 to 23.
