Power shutdown

CHENNAI : Power supply will be suspended between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Friday in the following areas in the city: Narayanappa Angappan Street in Muthialpet; NSC Bose Road, Badri Garden Street, Kristappa Maistry Street, Pattaravakkam Road, Samthariaya Nagar and Murugan cinema in Ambattur area; Vandikkaran Street, TNHB Colony, Ambedkar Nagar, Bavani Nagar and Nethaji Road of Raj Bhavan SS Area; Pammal, Anakaputhur, West and East Tambaram, Mudichur Road, Chittalapakkam, Sembakkam and Selaiyur, Villivakkam, Sidco Nagar, Ayanavaram, Southern Railway SS area, Kilkattalai, Kovilambakkam, Sathyanagar, Bhoopathy Nagar, Veeramani Nagar and Easwaran Nagar in Madipakkam area; Moshapuram and Sudhanthirapuram in Tondiarpet; Dasarathapuram, Saligramam, Muthukumarappa Street and Arcot Road; and Maduravoyal, Vanagaram, Ashtalakshmi Nagar, Krishna Nagar, Alapakakkam, Pallavan Nagar and parts of Tiruverkadu.

Power cut

Thiruvanmiyur and parts of Velachery went without power supply for a few hours on Thursday evening following tripping of the lines. An official of the Electricity Board said the disruption occurred when supply was being restored in Thiruvanmiyur after a planned shutdown. Alternative arrangements were made to resume supply.

Student found dead

Vijayalakshmi, a student of Government Higher Secondary School, was found hanging from the ceiling fan in her house at MMDA Colony in Pandian Street, Arumbakkam, around 6.45 p.m. on Wednesday. Police said she was apparently disturbed after she got low marks in her class XII examinations.

Coaching classes

The Periyar Institute of Professional Studies will shortly begin coaching for students aspiring for CA/ICWA/ACS and those due to write their foundation exams this year. It also offers counselling for high school and college students about these courses. Seminar on communication

The Tamilnadu Foundation Inc., TN Chapter, will conduct a seminar on `Effective Communication for Personal Growth' on Saturday at 27, Taylors Road, Kilpauk. C.Krishna Prasad, founder director, `Good Feelings,' will lead the seminar for job seekers and those interested in honing their communication skills. It will provide inputs on presentation skills, personality development and etiquette.

Counselling for substance abuse

The Wisdom Medical Research Foundation, Perungudi, will organise a free counselling programme on alcohol and drug addiction problems for addicts and their families at 10, II Cross Street, Ramappa Nagar, Perungudi, on Saturday (10.30 a.m - 4.30 p.m). For details call 2496 4919 or 2496 4404.
