Security measures for examinations
Special Correspondent
CHENNAI:
The University of Madras has initiated a series of security measures including the banning of temporary recruits for examination evaluation work and related activities.
A stricter vigil than usual is being maintained to look for specific markings in the answer papers, the Vice Chancellor, S.P. Thyagarajan, told The Hindu here on Wednesday.
Last month, a private TV channel kicked up a storm when it exposed through a sting operation, the existence of a planned racket where students paid money to some university administrative staff to `chase answer papers,' especially those with specific markings in answer sheets. Prof. Thyagarajan said it was indeed a gargantuan operation because there were more than 1.8 million answer books. "Even last time we saw and removed 1400-plus answer scripts with suspected markings."
" On the one side, the vigilance and anti corruption wing of the State police is probing the racket... but we have evolved our own methods," he added.
