Chennai: A 35-year-old man, who was about to be produced before the judge, collapsed at the Egmore court on Tuesday. He was taken to the Government General Hospital where he was declared dead on Tuesday evening. According to the police, Malayalam from Royapettah was picked up by the Anna Salai police after his brother Senthil gave a petition, saying his efforts to care for the former, who was mentally deranged, failed. "He wanted his mentally deranged brother to be admitted to an institution as Malayalam had turned violent. The police registered a case under the Mental Health Act and were about to produce him before the court and put him under judicial custody when Malayalam fainted," a senior police official said. "Since he was technically under police custody, there will be a revenue department inquiry.".
Motorcyclist killed
A 40-year-old man was killed after his motorcycle collided head on with a lorry on Tondiarpet High Road on Tuesday afternoon. According to Kilpauk traffic investigation police, N. Rajendran, a resident of Tanikachalam Nagar in Ponniammanmedu, was killed on the spot after his vehicle hit an Andhra Pradesh-registered lorry near Kannadasan Nagar bus depot. Rajendran was not wearing a helmet. The police have arrested driver Govindasamy.
House burgled
Burglars broke into a house in Rajamangalam in Villivakkam on Tuesday and decamped with cash and jewellery. According to the police, Devadas and his family, who had gone out, found the front door of their house on 1st main road, broken open and jewellery weighing eight sovereigns and Rs. 10,000 in cash missing.
Chain snatching
A three-sovereign chain was snatched from a woman by two men on a motorcycle at Velachery on Tuesday night. The police are investigating.
