Submitted fake property documents worth Rs. 2 crore as security

  • Documents were of property on GP Road
  • Accused defaulted on repayment after a year
  • Police on the lookout for two other accused

CHENNAI: The Central Crime Branch of the city police on Wednesday arrested two women on charges of forgery. They were later remanded to custody.

According to CCB officials, Suchitra Agarwal (25) and Kavita (27) were arrested from their TTK Road residence after the police received a complaint from Bank of Baroda's senior manager Narendra Babu on May 18.

The complainant said the accused persons, along with Suchitra's mother Gayatri Agarwal, submitted fake property documents worth Rs. 2 crore as security to get an over draft of Rs. 30 lakh from the bank's Alwarpet branch in 2004.

The documents were of property on GP Road reportedly belonging to family friend Maqdum Moideen.

The accused told the bank officials that they received a work contract from Southern Railways for claiming the OD.

The bank officials realised that the property documents were fake after the accused defaulted on repayment after a year.

Based on the complaint, the CCB team arrested the two women who along with Gayatri Agarwal have been accused in another cheating case. The police are on the lookout for the other two accused.

    AIADMK complaint

A group of All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam functionaries, led by party leader Balaganga, met Greater Chennai Police Commissioner Letika Saran on Wednesday and submitted a complaint regarding false complaints and assault.

The complaint alleged that party workers were being harassed by the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam cadres in the Chepauk constituency with the help of police. They said the Commissioner assured them that action would be taken.

In another complaint, AIADMK worker Jayaraman was allegedly assaulted by Congress supporters in JJ Nagar, which falls under the RK Nagar constituency.
