DGP denies scaling down security

CHENNAI: The office of the Director General of Police has denied reports about scaling down the security for AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa who is entitled to Z Plus and NSG security cover.

``There is no reduction in the present security scale as laid down in the rules. Two personal security officers are on duty round the clock, apart from police guards at her residence. Two escort vehicles with State police strength and two additional escort vehicles with NSG personnel are deployed for security during movement. Totally, four vehicles form part of the escort component.

"In addition, screening watchers are also earmarked. Totally, 55 officers and men (including NSG personnel) are deployed in three shifts. The Commissioners of Police and Superintendents of Police have been asked to provide necessary law and order arrangements whenever she attends meetings,'' the office said in a press release on Wednesday.
