BANGALORE: Boys and girls who wrote the second pre-university examination in March-April have outclassed those of the past recording a pass percentage of 53.97. It is the highest ever pass percentage in the history of the pre-university course examination in the State. The corresponding percentage last year was 52.77 and 48.99 in 2004. The results will be announced on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at all pre-university colleges. Minister for Primary and Secondary Education Basavaraj S. Horatti, who announced the results here on Monday, said 3,77,843 students appeared for the examinations and of these 2,03,930 passed. As in the past, this year too the pass percentage among rural students (56.95) was better than among urban students (52.92). Girls have fared better than boys. The pass percentage for girls was 59.75 while it was 49 among boys. Udupi district topped the list with a pass percentage of 79.96 while Bidar district finished at the bottom with only 20.32 per cent of passes. Dakshina Kannada finished second (79.21 per cent) followed by Kodagu (69.11 per cent). All the three have retained their positions of 2005 examinations. The pass percentage for private candidates is 28.47 while for repeaters it is 29.17. Commerce students have fared better with 64.63 per cent passes compared with Arts (53.26 per cent) and Science (49.29 per cent). English-medium students (56.15) have done better than Kannada-medium students (51.83). The highest marks obtained by a student in Science stream is 587 out of 600, 585 in Commerce and 556 in Arts. The pass percentage has been highest in aided pre-university colleges (58.32) followed by bifurcated colleges (57.32), government colleges (50.94) and corporation colleges (46.81). The pass percentage under different categories is: Scheduled Castes 43.77; Scheduled Tribes 45.40; Category - I 50; Category-2A 59.07; Category- 2B 47.42; Category-3A 57.07; Category-3B 55.77 and General 59.01.Of the successful students, 7,067 have obtained distinction, 1,11,328 first class, 63,090 second class and 22,846 pass class. As many as 1,083 students were involved in malpractices.
