THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Girls bagged most of the top ranks in this year's higher secondary examinations, the results of which were declared at a press meet by Minister for Education M.A. Baby on Monday. Of the 21 first, second and third rank-holders in the Science, Humanities, Commerce, Technical and Arts groups, 17 are girls. As many as 3,67,265 candidates had registered to write the examinations. Of these, 3,66,523, appeared and 2,17,012 candidates passed. The pass percentage is 59.21; down from last year's pass percentage of 59.98. The first rank in the Science group went to Prabha Chandran of Government BHSS, Neyyattinkara, Thiruvananthapuram. She scored 585 marks out of 600. The second rank in this group was shared by M.S. Sherin of Government Girls' HSS Cotton Hill, Thiruvananthapuram, and M.S. Shabina of Government MG HSS, Attingal, both of whom scored 584 marks. The third rank was shared by three candidates: N.W Krishna of Government HSS North Paravur, Abraham Niby Francis of St. Thomas HSS, Pala, and Savan George of St. Thomas College HSS, Thrissur, each scoring 583 marks. In the Humanities group, the first rank went to K.S. Dhanya Shankar of CG HSS, Vadakkanchery, who scored 571 marks. The second rank went to Sunpriya Balachandran of SSV HSS, Chirayinkeezhu, who scored 564 marks and the third rank to Belga Marriya Berk of St. Mary's BHSS, Kottayam, who scored 563 marks. In the Commerce group, the first rank was shared by Jelpa L. Motta of Sacred Heart HSS, Thevara, and N.R. Anitha of Sacred Heart CG HSS, Thrissur. They scored 580 marks. The second rank went to Reetha Anna Saji of St. Thomas HSS, Eruvallippra, who scored 579 marks while the third rank was shared by S. Devi of SNM HSS Maliyankara and K.V Niranjana of the same school, scoring 578 marks. In the Technical group, the first rank was shared by Ashley Thomas Abraham of Model Technical Higher Secondary School, Kaloor, and K. Faseela of T HSS, Vattamkulam, Malappuram, both scoring 578 marks. The second rank was bagged by Vijay George of Model T HSS, Kaloor, who scored 575 and the third rank went to Bhadra Babu Anchalasserry of Model T HSS, Kaloor, who scored 574 marks. In the Arts group, in which only the students from the Kalamandalam Arts HSS, Cheruthuruthy, wrote the examination, the first rank went to P.S. Salini who scored 498 marks, the second rank, to V. Abhimanyu who scored 477 marks and the third rank to Nayana N. Raj who scored 474 marks.
