KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala on Monday expanded his seven-member Cabinet to 18 members. The expanded Cabinet has 12 Ministers and six State Ministers. Only one Minister is a woman. Nepali Congress has seven Ministers, CPN-UML 6, NC (D) four, and United Left Front one. People's Front Nepal and Nepal Sadbhabana Party, which will have one Minister each, are yet to recommend their names to the Prime Minister. Meanwhile, Deputy Speaker Chitra Lekha Yadhav has rejected her nomination as Minister for Water Resources. Speaking to the journalists, after rejecting the nomination, Ms. Yadhav said, "I think I can play more effective role remaining in the legislature rather than joining the executive." Ms. Yadhav has remained unhappy with the seven-party alliance for not offering her the Speaker post. When the then Speaker Taranath Ranahat resigned, the parties elected Subas Nembang as the new Speaker.
