KAYALPATNAM: South Central Railway, Secunderabad, edged past Karnataka Police, Bangalore, through Alfred's goal in the 41st Moulana Abul Kalam Azad Memorial Trophy all-India football tournament at United Sports Club ground here on Monday. SCR controlled the game right from the start and could have won by a bigger margin had not its forwards squandered a good number of easy chances. Andrews, Nithi, Alfred and Sridharan wasted chances. However, Alfred made amends for his failure by scoring in the 43rd minute.
Sethu prevails
Sethu Football Club prevailed over TVS Soccer Club 3-2 via tiebreaker in the inaugural match of the Don Bosco State-level football tournament at Madurai on Monday. At the regulation time, the teams were level 1-1. Seeni Mohideen scored for Sethu Club in the 16th minute and Suresh netted the equaliser for TVS in the 57th minute. In the tiebreaker, Jegatheeswaran and Ravi scored for Sethu Club. Raja Ganesh scored for TVS Soccer Club.
KSEB beats SECR
Kerala State Electricity Board defeated South Eastern Central Railway (SECR) 76-57 in the 51st LRG Naidu Memorial Cup, all India basketball tournament in Karur on Monday. In the women's section, SECR cruised past Central Railway 59-54 in the inaugural match of the first KCP Indrani Memorial Cup. The results (Men): HAL (Bangalore) bt Central Excise (Cochin) 55-53; Army Signals (New Delhi) bt Diesel Loco Works (Varanasi) 62-58.
Easy for Nagapattinam
Dhanasekar's half-century guided Nagapattinam to a comfortable 60-run win over Villupuram and entered the semifinals of the fourth annual State-level cricket tournament in Cuddalore. The scores: Nagapattinam 186 for six in 25 overs (Dhanasekar 51) bt Villupuram 126. ACC 152 in 25 overs bt Vadalur 151 for nine in 25 overs (Rafique 46).
