NEW DELHI: World Cup champion Jayant Talukdar will lead the Indian challenge at the second World Cup archery in Antalya, Turkey, from June 7 to 10. Talukdar, along with Tarundeep Rai, N. Ravinder and Mangal Singh, made it through after the three-day selection trial that concluded at the Nehru Stadium here on Sunday. The same team will travel to San Salvador, El Salvador, for the third World Cup tournament from June 21 to 25. The international archery federation (FITA) introduced the concept of World Cup only this year to give the archers more platforms to perform. There will be a series of four World Cups followed by World Cup finals, wherein only the winners at the World Cups will contest for the cash awards.
At a simple ceremony here, the Archery Association of India felicitated the medal winners with cash awards by the Archery Federation of India. Talukdar received Rs. one lakh while the women archers were given Rs. 15,000 each. The team: Men: Recurve: Jayant Talukdar, Tarundeep Rai, N. Ravinder and Mangal Singh. Women: Recurve: Reena Kumari, Dola Banerjee, Laxmi Rani Majhi and Sushma. Compound: Jhanu Hansda, Manjudha Soy, Sakro Besra and Radha Bai. Junior team for Asian Grand Prix, Kuala Lumpur, and SAF Games, Colombo: Boys: Recurve: Amardeep Karketta, Birsa Bandiya, Mayan Moni Nath and Kapil. Compound: Palton Hansda, Renso Purti, Santosh Tamang and Abhishek Verma. Girls: Recurve: Punya Prabha, Runu Swargariya, Rosie Lalrem and Ranu. Sports Reporter
