End traffic congestion The busy roads in Thripunithura have become a nightmare for pedestrians and motorists alike. The stretches between Statue junction and R.C.M Hospital, new bus stand, Chinmaya Vidyalaya and Layam Road have become congested, with vehicular traffic and number of pedestrians rising, especially during peak hours. The major reason for such a situation is unscientific parking of vehicles on these stretches. Vehicle owners park their vehicles on either side of these stretches without any concern for smooth movement of vehicles. Traders, especially grocery and vegetable merchants, encroach upon the footpaths, making pedestrians walk on the roads. The authorities concerned should look into this matter with due seriousness and take necessary steps for redressing the woes of the common people. With the heat and bustle of the elections having died down, I hope the authorities will now make use of men and machinery for serving the public. Joseph George A., Thripunithura. Change land classification Nearly 25 years ago, the Greater Cochin Development Authority classified places under its jurisdiction into agricultural, industrial, commercial and residential areas, and thereafter, the appropriate authority issued a notification as such. In Thripunithura municipality, most areas, especially those having plots on either side of roads, are residential, which clearly bar any commercial construction with area beyond 50 square metres. This classification is unscientific and has been causing inconvenience, hurdles and embarrassment to people desirous of eking out a livelihood by constructing commercial buildings on their small plots. In practice, nobody is able to construct a commercial building in the municipal area because of the notification and rules made there under. The politician-bureaucrat nexus is exploiting this situation by compelling people to rush to the State capital for relaxation of rules, for which they have to spend a lot of money. Law must be for the benefit and welfare of the people. It shall not be a torture or intimidation to the people. The authority must review the situation and do the needful in the matter so that the present classification of branding the entire town a residential area must be changed. V.P. Ramesan, Thripunithura. Change inland letter design I am pointing out certain difficulties faced by the common man while using inland letters of the postal department. It is highly appreciable and desirable to have a change in the design of inland letters. Most of us like to have certain privacy when writing to relatives and friends. The design and look of the letters are good, but their structure is not user-friendly. There are three sides to be pasted. This takes time. Those who receive the letters have to take proper care to read the contents. A portion gets torn away on stretching the letter. Action may be taken to solve these problems. N.V. Ramaswamy, Thrissur.
Thripunithura.
