HYDERABAD : New Club defeated Country Club 2-0 in the first round of the Semantic Space-JHIC inter-club tennis tournament at Jubilee Hills International Centre here on Thursday. Ramesh and Jerry defeated Md Hassan Ali 6-3, 6-3 while Surya Prasad and Jimmy got the better of Paramjit Singh and Krishna Rao 6-0, 7-6. In another match, Surya Foundation put it across Youth Club 2-0 with Krishnam Raju and R.V. Rama Raju downing G. Sivarama Raju and Rangaraju 6-0, 2-6, 6-2 while A.R. Rao and C. Srinivas downed B.H. Sivrama Raju and K. Srinivasa Raju 6-3, 6-1.
APCA to felicitate
medallists
Andhra Pradesh Chess Association will felicitate all the international and national medallists at Olympic Bhavan on May 19 at 11.30 am, according to K. Kanna Reddy, secretary of APCA. Meanwhile, APCA informed that the Brilliant Trophy Open prize money chess tournament at Brilliant Grammar School (Dilsukhnagar) from May 20. Spot entries are also accepted. Harnik nets winner
MCH Ameerpet defeated Osmania University 2-1 in the B Division hockey league championship at the AOC ground here. Osmania took the lead in the fourth minute through Ghouse Khan only to see the Hardeep Singh score the equaliser in the 18th minute. In the 46th minute, S. Harnik Singh netted the winner for MCH.
Three boxers for National boxing
Three boxers from Visakhapatnam have been selected for the National coaching camp for senior women. N. Usha, Ch. Kanakadurga and Swapna Priya were the boxers selected for the camp while the coach for the camp, I. Venkateswara Rao, is also from Visakhapatnam.

women's cricket
Andhra Pradesh Women's Cricket Association will organise the Rajiv Gandhi memorial junior National women's cricket tournament at RDT Stadium in Anantapur from May 21 to 25, according to M. Ramalinga Reddy, secretary of APWCA. Ten State teams will take part in the event to be played on 40 overs each-a-side affair. Special prizes like `eve of the match' and `player of the series' will also be given to the performing cricketers.
Seven in SZ team
Seven players from Andhra Pradesh will represent South Zone in the Inter-zonal women's cricket championship to be held in Mumbai from May 28 to June 4. Diana David, Geetha, Mamata Kanoja, Sravanthi Naidu, Gouhar Sultana, Savita Nirala and Soujanya Nath are the selected players. AOC enters final AOC Centre defeated ASC 84-79 to move into the final of the ATNK & K Area basketball championship at AOC Secunderabad on Thursday. Sanjay (34) was the top-scorer for the winner, while Jayarangan (22) and Harish Singh (16) contributed well for the losing side.
