Cess repealed

NEW DELHI: In a bid to improve the competitiveness of agricultural and marine products exports, the Union Government has eliminated a cess that earned the Central Exchequer only Rs. 110 crore annually. The Cess Laws (Repealing and Amending) Bill, 2005, which has been passed by Parliament on Wednesday, ensures that the levies on coffee, tobacco, spices, marine and agricultural products are now eliminated.
