MADURAI: A brace each by Pradeep, Rayar and Karthik and one goal each by Senthilkumar and Jeyaraman helped Cholas Sports Club, Tiruchi, thrash Blue Boys Hockey Club, Rajapalayam, 8-0 in the ninth annual Kothaiammal Memorial Trophy state-level hockey tournament organised by Ever Great Hockey Club at GHSS ground, Vadipatti near here on Thursday. In another match, three goals by Sunil and one by Satheesh helped Ramanathapuram District Hockey Association defeat Cuddalore XI 4-2. For Cuddalore Nagarajan scored. In yet another match, Hockey Talent Development Centre, Vadipatti prevailed over J.J. Hockey Academy, Dindigul 2-1. Krishnamurthy and Pandikumar scored for Development Centre. Edwin Babu scored for J.J. Academy.
Nethaji SC posts win
At Kalyalapatnam, Nethaji Sports Club beat Kanyakumari District Football Association 3-0 in a first round match in the 41st Moulana Abul Kalam Azad Memorial football tournament organised by United Sports Club here on Thursday. Kanyakumari DFA, a last minute replacement for ASC Centre, Bangalore, could not find its rhythm and Nethaji scored three goals in the 10th, 20th and 33rd minutes. Pannerselvam scored the first goal off a minus pass from Gunasekaran, who got the ball of a cross from Nataraj Murugan from left. Nataraj Murugan scored the second with a solo effort while Raju completed the tally.
Four-wkt win for UDC
At Tiruchi, Urumu Dhanalakshmi College (UDC) defeated Bishop Heber College `B' by four wickets in a play off match and won the second division league of the Tiruchi District Cricket Association here. The scores: Second division: Bishop Heber College `B' 123 in 29.4 overs lost to UDC 124 for six in 26 overs (M. Balasubramanian 42 not out). Galaxy `B' 94 lost to Zephyrs 95 for one. Third division: Tiruchi Medical Rep 89 in 24.2 overs lost to Golden Chariot `B' 90 for four in 24 overs. Fourth division: Warriors Avenue 152 for two in 25 overs (M. Senthil Kumar 77 not out) lost to Golden Chariot `C' 153 for five in 24.4 overs (M. Ravi 69 not out). Fifth division: Premier 160 in 29 overs (T. Manivel 53, I. Surendran six for 24) bt Young Sobers 145 for eight in 30 overs (S. Saravanan 58, I. Baskar 55).
Wonder XI beats
HPF Staff Club
At Udhagamandalam, Wonder XI scored an 82-run win over HPF Staff Club in the TNCA-NDCA `C' division league for the Fountain India Rolling Trophy at the HPF grounds here on Wednesday. The scores: C division: Wonder XI 239 (G.J. Dass 74, T. Nandakumar 53, S.A. Raja 41, K.S. Premnath five for 53) bt HPF Staff Club 157 (V. Nishanth 40).
