Jamalpur: Former champion Punjab breezed past Tamil Nadu 2-0 in the National under-21 football championship here on Thursday. The day's only Group A quarterfinal league match here at the Jamalpur Sports Association Stadium saw Punjab scoring one goal each in either half to move to the top of the group table. Punjab completed its league engagements winning both its matches and collected full six points. Tamil Nadu, which played its first match on Thursday, will have to win the second match against Bihar to qualify for the knockout stage as the second team. Punjab, which beat Bihar 4-2 in the first game, failed to find its usual rhythm on Thursday, but managed a win. Sehijpal Singh capitalised on a defensive lapse to the take the lead in the 20th minute. Kumar Nayyar, who went in as the substitute, completed the rout in the 82nd minute. Tamil Nadu failed in all departments of the game. Sports Reporter
