NEW DELHI: Yuki Bhambri won both his singles and doubles as India beat Chinese Taipei 2-1 in the quarterfinals of the Asia-Oceania World Junior under-14 tennis tournament at Jakarta, Indonesia, on Thursday. In the process, India qualified for the world group competition along with China, New Zealand and Japan. Incidentally, it was the only Indian team to qualify to the next stage this season, as the under-16 boys and girls teams had finished an identical 11th in the junior Davis Cup and Fed Cup. The thrid-seeded Indian boys had topped their group by beating Pacific Oceania, Sri Lanka and Indonesia by an identical margin of 3-0. The sixth-seeded Indian girls lost their quarterfinals 0-3 to the top-seeded Uzbekistan. The girls had finished second in their group as they had lost to the third-seeded China 0-3, after having beaten Singapore and Hong Kong 3-0 each. In the semifinals, the Indian boys will clash with the top-seeded China, while the Indian girls will fight for the fifth place, starting with a match against the seventh-seeded Korea. The results (quarterfinals): Boys: India bt Chinese Taipei 2-1 (Jugal Marfatia lost to Yi-Lun Lin 3-6, 2-6; Yuki Bhambri bt Liang-Chi Huang 6-1, 6-1; Yuki and Sumit Shinde bt Liang-Chi Huang and Yi-Lun Lin 7-5, 7-5). Girls: Uzbekistan bt India 3-0 (Aleksandra Kolesnichenko bt Prerna Bhambri 6-0, 6-1; Albina Khabibulina bt Rashmi Teltumbe 6-3, 6-0; Aleksandra and Albina bt Prerna and Adnya Naik 6-3, 6-0).
