Ganguly fancies Northamptonshire

P. Subramanyam

London: Former India captain, Sourav Ganguly, has expressed his keen interest to have a short-term contract with Northamptonshire County Cricket Club, it was announced this morning.

According to the BBC Sport, the club wants Ganguly to deputise for Australian batsman, Chris Rogers for five weeks in June and July. In this context, the 33-year-old Indian told Reuters: "I just want to go there and play cricket."

The deal with Northants, however, dependent on Ganguly not being picked for India's Test series in the West Indies. The squad is due to be announced next week.

Earlier, Ganguly had played for Lancashire in 2000 and for Glamorgan last summer.

Northants chief executive, Mr. Mark Tagg added that Ganguly was their "number one target."

He has scored 5,221 runs in 88 Tests and made 10,123 runs in 279 one-dayers.
