BANGALORE: The 24-day Bangalore Summer meeting will commence on Saturday (May 20) and conclude on Friday (Aug. 4). Racing will be held on Saturday and Sunday except during the concluding week. Concurrently, summer races will be held in Mysore spread over 14 days during the period May 24 to July 20. Briefing the media here on Thursday, the BTC Chairman and senior steward , Mr. Marilingaiah, said that outstation trainers Vijay Singh, Imtiaz Sait, Arti Doctor, B. Chenoy, Nina Lalvani, P. Shroff, Zadmal Singh, Anant Vatsalya, D'Silva, Deshmukh, Rafaat Husain, D. Netto, Prasad Raju and Shehzad Abbas will participate. The BTC official said that temporary licences have been issued to the local trainers till the end of summer season following a meeting of the BTC and KTA members over the past two days on the syces issue. About 945 horses including 174 from outstation are expected to participate. Stakesmoney has been increased by 16% as compared to the last summer. Added money for the classic races are as follows : Kingfisher Derby Bangalore Rs. 50,00,000 (Trophy Rs. 1,00,000), Colts Trial Stakes Rs. 20,00,000 (Trophy Rs. 50,000), Fillies Trial Stakes Rs. 20,00,000 (Trophy Rs. 50,000), Bangalore St. Leger Rs. 10,00,000 (Trophy Rs. 25,000). Added money increased from Rs. 4 lakhs to 5 lakhs for Grade III races and Rs 3 to 4 lakhs for the Nawab M. Arshad Ali Khan Memorial Cup and The Bangalore City Gold Cup. The level of incentive has been revised by 33-1/3% as compared to the Bangalore Winter Meeting 2005-06. Payment of 20% incentive on stakes earned by local horses in ordinary races will continue as in previous summer and 20% of incentive on stakes won by local horses bred in Karnataka will continue as in winter meeting 2005-06 and 20% incentive on stakes earned by local horses in ordinary races will continue on the same basis, as during the last winter meeting, in respect of owners not having interest in more than five horses. Estimated total outlay for the season would be Rs. 9.40 crores over 24 days covering stakes and incentives as compared to Rs. 8.25 crores paid last summer over 28 days. The number of races would be restricted to a maximum of eight on all race days except in respect of the day, when the following races are run (when the maximum number of races would be nine) Fillies Trial Stakes, Colts Trial Stakes, Maharaja's Cup, Bangalore Derby, St. Leger and Governor's Cup. The following recommendations of the Turf Authorities of India have been accepted: Revising the unit of rating; Raising the minimum top weight; Discontinuing the practice of lowering weights in a few of the handicap races for horses rated 80 & above. The Kingfisher Derby Bangalore will be sponsored as in last summer, with an added money of Rs. 50,00,000, inclusive of the Club's contribution of Rs. 25 lakhs. In addition, the following races are being sponsored during the ensuing summer meeting, the Daisy Appoo BTC Anniversary Cup with added money of Rs. 6 lakhs, inclusive of the club's contribution of Rs. 3 lakhs. The Usha Stud Bangalore Summer Million with added money of Rs. 8 lakhs, inclusive of the club's contribution of Rs. 4 lakhs. The following are the special race days: The Karnataka Juvenile Million (May 21), The Karnataka Cup (May 28), The Chief Minister's Cup (June 4), The Fillies Trial Stakes (June 11), The Chief Justice Cup (June 17), The Colts Trial Stakes (June 18), The Juvenile Sprinters Million (June 25), The Maharaja's Cup (July 2), Daisy Appoo B.T.C. Anniversary Cup (July 8), The Kingfisher Derby Bangalore (July 9), The Bangalore St. Leger (July 16), The Usha Stud Bangalore Summer Million (July 23), The Bangalore City Gold Cup (July 30) and The Governor's Cup (August 4).
