Awards presented to BSNL employees

CHENNAI : Among the metropolitan cities, Chennai has achieved the highest tele-density of 67:100 population.

This was possible because Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and private service providers offered all types of connections, said R. Purushothaman, Chief General Manager, Southern Telecom Projects, and Chennai Telephones on Wednesday.

He was participating in the presentation ceremony of the 2005-06 Bharat Sanchar Shree and Vishisht Sanchar Seva Padak awards to BSNL employees.

Mr. Purushothaman said another achievement of BSNL because of its "umbrella marketing strategy" during March this year was that it was able to remove landline from the negative list. "Team effort and perseverance to perform well yielded positive results."

Thomas Varghese, General Manager, Southern Railway, Chennai, who gave away the awards, said both, the Indian Railways and BSNL had several things in common — in terms of magnitude of the organisation and also the large number of people they served.

Recalling the revolutionary steps initiated by Sam Pitroda, technocrat and Chairman of the Knowledge Commission, Mr. Varghese complimented BSNL for becoming a part and parcel of everyone's life.

Union Minister of Communications and Information Technology Dayanidhi Maran, in his congratulatory message, said telecommunication revolution had networked the people of the country into a new lifestyle.

K. Sridhara, Chief General Manager, Tamil Nadu Telecom Circle, who presided, commended Vellore and Tirunelveli BSNL unit staff for bagging the national award.
