Arrest of former Nepal Ministers condemned

Staff Correspondent

NEW DELHI: The Asian Centre for Human Rights (ACHR) on Saturday condemned the Nepal Government's use of the Public Safety Act and the Public Offences Act to arrest five former Ministers.

Urging the Nepal Government to repeal the Acts, the ACHR said they were the monarchy's instruments used for suppressing pro-democracy uprisings.

"The Inquiry Commission must bear in mind that all illegal acts and human rights violations have been done under the leadership of King Gyanendra," said ACHR Director, Suhas Chakma.
