MYSORE: A man convicted in a murder case threw footwear at the judge in a court in Mysore on Friday soon after he sentenced him to life imprisonment. Police said the presiding officer of the Third Fast Track Court B.M. Sindhagi had hardly finished reading out the sentence against Somashekar and Alwin in a murder case when Somashekar, who was on his way out of the court hall, picked up a footwear and flung it at the judge. It landed on the table of the judge. Somashekar's unexpected act caught the police personnel escorting him off guard. The policemen secured the convict, bundled him into a police van and took him away. The incident took place soon after the conclusion of the trial in the murder case of St Philomena's Hostel watchman Verghese, at the Third Fast Track court in Mysore court complex on Friday morning. Somashekar, who is the main accused in the murder case, had been produced before the judge along with the other accused Alwin, Zaheer Khan and Nayaz. Reading out the judgement, Mr. Sindhagi acquitted Zaheer Khan and Nayaz while Somashekar was convicted for the murder along with Alwin. Adding to the commotion, Somashekar's relatives entered into a heated argument with advocate Vrushabhendrappa after the judge read out the sentence. Vrushabhendrappa was at the receiving end of the ire of Somashekar's relatives as his wife Usha, also an advocate, had managed to secure the acquittal of her clients Zaheer Khan and Nayaz. Mr. Sindhagi later lodged a complaint with the Lakshmipuram police station against Somashekar.
Protest
The Mysore Court complex witnessed another protest on Friday by court workers, who staged a demonstration seeking action against a woman advocate for allegedly assaulting a court clerk, Hanumaiah. In response, the Advocates' Association came out in defence of the advocate. In a press statement, association president S.J. Lakshme Gowda denied the allegations and said the court clerk had behaved rudely with the advocate.
