MYSORE: Five persons drowned in the Cauvery at the Gosai Ghat in Srirangapatna on Wednesday. The police said four of the dead were from Mandya and one from Ganjam in Srirangapatna. They were part of a seven-member group that arrived at the Gosai Ghat by an autorickshaw. A child and a woman remained on the banks when the five youths jumped into the river for a swim. The police gave the names of the child and the woman as Tabrez and Farzu. The deceased have been identified as Rizwan, 22, Yunus, 21, Saleem, 22, Kaleem, 20, from Mandya, and Jaffer, 21, of Ganjam.
Bodies recovered
The four youths from Mandya arrived in Srirangapatna from Guttal Colony in Mandya by an autorickshaw along with Tabrez and Farzu on Tuesday for the annual urs. After participating in the urs, they stayed overnight in Srirangapatna and left for the Gosai Ghat on Wednesday along with Jaffer. The police said that the bodies had been recovered.
