Chennai: The Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) has dismissed the appeal of the Pakistan's hockey captain, Muhammad Saqlain, on his three-match ban imposed by the International Hockey Federation. The verdict would now force Saqlain to miss three international matches. More importantly, the CAS has asked the player to pay 3000 Swiss Francs to the FIH. It may be recalled that the FIH had slapped a three-match ban on the Pakistani mid-fielder after he caused serious injuries to the rival Australian attacker, Craig Victory, in a tackle during the four-nation tournament at Hamburg last year. The Aussie had to be hospitalised with a jaw fracture, and had to go through a painful process of structuring broken teeth. The FIH ban had to be enforced during the Chennai edition of the Champions Trophy but the Paksitan Hockey Federation went on appeal to the CAS on behalf of the player. Hockey Correspondent
