NEW DELHI: Arunima Kalra stunned second seed Himani Sharma to share the lead with Mahima Gupta at three points in the girls' (under-11) section after three rounds of the Delhi state age-group chess championship at the Bapu Samaj Sewa Kendra here on Saturday. In the boys' section, Prince Bajaj was among the leaders in the under-9 and under-11 categories while Harshal Shahi led the under-7 field. Asha in main draw
Asha Nandakumar beat Ruchita Shetty 6-3, 6-2 to move into the main draw of the $10,000 ITF women's tennis tournament at the DLTA Complex here on Saturday. Sagarika Phadke and Ashmitha Easwaramurthi were also equally at ease in sailing into the main draw from the qualifying event. Five other slots will be filled following the final round of qualification on Sunday. Sehwag shines
Virender Sehwag weaved a magic as he hammered 43 runs with three 6s, claimed four wickets, took two catches and effected a run out, to guide Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) into the final of the 16th all-India Om Nath Sood memorial cricket tournament at Shri Guru Gobind Singh College ground here on Saturday. In the semifinals, Sahara Samay fell short by 15 runs against ONGC despite a fluent century by Mahesh Rawat. ONGC will meet Sonnet Club in the final on Monday. The scores: ONGC 246 for nine in 40 overs (Mithun Manhas 59, Virender Sehwag 43) beat Sahara Samay 231 in 39.5 overs (Mahesh Rawat 100, Virender Sehwag four for 48).
All-round show by Samarth
An all-round performance by Samarth Singh who took three wickets and followed that with an unbeaten 63 helped Modern School, Barakhamba Road, to an eight-wicket victory over St. Mark's School in the pre-quarterfinals of the fifth Bal Bharati inter-school cricket tournament in Pitampura. The scores: St. Mark's School 118 in 23.2 overs (Ankur Pawar 50, Praful Bagai 30, Karan Khurana four for 30, Samarth Singh three for 15) lost to Modern School, Barakhamba Road, 122 for two in 15.3 overs (Samarth Singh 63not out, Varun Chakravarti 31).
DSA Summer camp
The Delhi Soccer Association (DSA) will hold a summer football camp for boys and girls in the under-10, 13 and 16 age groups at the Ambedkar Stadium from May 7 to June 30. Interested may contact the DSA secretary, N. K. Bhatia, at the Ambedkar Stadium.
