VISAKHAPATNAM: The Hindu put up a splendid show on the last day of the second CMR-VJF inter-media sports meet at the Port Stadium on Friday. K.R. Deepak won the 100m and 200m sprints for the second consecutive year, D. Ravikumar regained the badminton singles title and The Hindu rounded off the meet by winning the tug-of-war, the final event of the six-day meet. The results: Badminton singles final: D. Ravikumar (The Hindu) bt Ch. Netaji (VJF) 21-18, 21-14. Doubles final: Netaji and Ramkiran Reddy (VJF) bt Ravikumar and D. Rajasekhar (TH) 21-12, 21-13. Third place: S. Bharat hits double century
K.S. Bharat hit a double century (203, 23 x 4) in VDCA `A' team's innings and 125-run win over VDCA `B' in the under-13 inter-zone matches here. Abbas Naqvi and Dheeraj Kumar along with Srihari bowled well for VDCA `A' in restricting the rival team. In the other match, Sai Charan scored a fine century (116) for VDCA `D' against VDCA `C'. Aravind with a half-century and Sai Dinesh helped VDCA `C' to save the match after being asked to follow on. Gopinath broke the back of VDCA `C' in its first knock while Ramana picked up three wickets each in the two innings for VDCA `D'. The scores: VDCA `A' 267 for nine decl. in 76.3 overs (K.S. Bharat 202) bt VDCA `B' 57 in 36.1 overs (Abbas Naqvi four for 11) and 84 in 50.1 overs (Ricky B 43, Dhiraj Kumar four wickets for seven runs). VDCA `D' 356 for seven in 90 overs (Sai Charan 116, G. Shyam Sundar 63, Vamsi Reddy 51) drew with VDCA `C' 67 in 22.4 overs (Gopinath four wickets for five runs) and 176 for seven in 56 overs (Aravind 53).
Cricket trials
Trials to select the Visakhapatnam district under-19 zonal teams (for players born on or after Sept. 1, 1987) will be held on May 14. Interested have to register their names at the VDCA office, MCV Stadium on or before May 11 between 5.30 p.m. and 7.30 p.m. by producing age-proof certificate.
