Manmohan calls on Mahajan family

Mumbai : Prime Minister Manmohan Singh called on the bereaved family of Bharatiya Janata Party leader Pramod Mahajan at Worli here on Saturday.

He paid floral tributes to Mahajan before meeting his wife Rekha, son Rahul, daughter Poonam and brother-in-law and BJP leader Gopinath Munde.

"The Prime Minister said since he too was a member of the Rajya Sabha, he closely watched Mahajan for years and would remember him as a balanced and well-studied speaker," Mr. Munde later told reporters.

Dr. Singh was accompanied by his wife Gursharan Kaur and Union Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office Prithviraj Chavan.

Urn immersed

Meanwhile an urn containing Mahajan's ashes was immersed in the Umkhra stream in Shillong by partymen.

Earlier, Meghalaya unit BJP president, who attended the funeral on May 4, brought the urn and kept it at the party office in Shillong for partymen to pay homage.
