Kottayam boys record second victory

PATHANAMTHITTA: Kottayam boys recorded their second win in the 30th State youth basketball championships at the TTMHSS courts, vadasherikkara here on Friday.

Kottayam, which upset defending champion Pathanamthitta, overcame Kollam 17-4 in a Pool `A' match. In the girls section, defending champion Kannur was impressive in its 31-13 win over Kozhikode in a pool `B' match.

The results:

Boys (Pool A): Thrissur 30 (K.Geo John 14, Jovin P.Vincent 1) bt Kollam; Kottayam bt Kollam 17-4.

Pool B: Thiruvananthapuram 38 (Umesh Krishnan 10) bt Malappuram 20; Kannur 64 (Saji Mathew 25, Mohammed Nihal Azad 21, T.G. Jobin 11) bt Malappuram 38 (P. Firoz 13); Alappuzha 65 (Rahul Krishna 21, Edurick Pereira 12, Kevin Varghese 11) bt Kannur 42 (Mohammed Nihal Azad 14, Saji Mathew 13)

Pool C: Palakkad bt Wayanad 24-15; Kozhikode 52 (Robin James 15, Eby Jose 13) bt Ernakulam 31 (Kunhi Mohammed 12); Kasargode bt Idukki 41-14

Girls: Pool `B': Kannur 31 (Reshma 14) bt Kozhikode 13.

Pool C: Kollam bt Thiruvananthapuram 21-9.
