MADURAI : The Madura Coats Workers' Co-operative Stores has organised a `saree and ceramic mela' to cash in on the forthcoming Chithrai festival. It has exhibited a variety of ceramic collection ranging from teacups, tumblers, plates, flower vases, `jeem boo bha' mega-size flower vase etc. The cup and saucer sets come for just Rs.15 while ceramic tumblers are available from Rs.10. A dinner set that comes with 27 pieces, including plates, is available for Rs.400. Among the saree collection, colourful cotton varieties ranging from Rs.150 to Rs.300 are on display while poonam collections are on sale for just Rs.99. Printed cotton sarees with beautiful butterfly pattern are available for just Rs.204. Women are sure to be attracted by Chandramukhi sarees available for Rs.170 and pure cotton nighties in attractive colours. The cooperative stores has come up with mela idea not only for business development but also to offer good quality items at affordable prices, said S. Suseendran, secretary. Though the mela is a maiden attempt, the one organised at Ponnagram turned out to be a big success, which prompted the organisers to take it to Palanganatham, Mr. Suseendran said. It has been planned to put up more stalls during the month of Aadi. And mela is to become an annual affair. K. Rajasekeran, Special Officer, Madura Coats Workers' Co-operative Stores inaugurated the mela on Saturday at the Palanganatham branch. The mela will remain open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. till May 11, including Sundays.
