Man held on cheating charge

He created a fictitious company

CHENNAI: The Central Crime Branch (CCB) police have arrested Mohammed Mansoor of Mannady on a cheating charge.

According to the police, in 2004 Michael Raj paid Rs. 6 lakh to Mansoor, who promised the former a job in South Africa. As per the assurance Michael Raj, who went to South Africa, found that the company he was to join was a fictitious one created by Mansoor.

Michael Raj returned home and in November last and filed a police complaint.

A special team formed under the supervision of K.S. Murali, Assistant Commissioner, arrested Mansoor. Further investigation is on.

Man arrested

A special party arrested Balu of Vyasarpadi on Wednesday at Hasthinapuram and the police recovered jewellery weighing 25 sovereigns and motorcycle.

According to A.Kaliyamurthy, Deputy Commissioner of Police, St.Thomas Mount, the arrested person was serving a sentence in connection with the attack on police station in Vengal, Tiruvallur district.

He came out on interim bail stating that his mother died. But he had gone underground and was missing for one and a half years.

Snatching case solved

With his arrest police claimed they had solved a snatching case in Chitlapakkam, three cases of burglary at Pallavaram, Sankar Nagar and Chitlapakkam police limits, Sankar Nagar, Madippakkam, Thomas Mount and Chromepet, where he was involved in robbery cases.

Explosive materials

Police also said he was wanted in connection with the illegal possession of explosive materials in a house in Shankar Nagar police limits.

He was detained under the Goondas Act four times, Mr Kaliyamurthy added. Further investigation is on.
