School for special children

NEW DELHI: New Delhi Municipal Council Chairperson Sindhushree Khullar on Thursday inaugurated a therapeutic garden at Aanchal, a school for special children being run by NDMC at Chanakyapuri in Central Delhi.

Developed at an estimated cost of Rs. 5.25 lakhs, the garden has been designed by an NGO, Jagdish Prashad Saxena Memorial Society. It has specially designed play-stations and structures besides a herbal garden for children.

Scouts and Guides annual rally

NEW DELHI: The Delhi State Bharat Scouts and Guides held its annual Rajya Puruskar Rally at Raj Nivas here on Thursday.

Speaking on the occasion, Lieutenant-Governor B. L. Joshi urged educationists and school heads to promote scouts and guides activities in their schools. He also presented awards and certificates to the scouts and guides.

Sheila to open gymnasium

NEW DELHI: Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit will inaugurate a multi-function gymnasium at Police Colony on Parliament Street on Friday. The gymnasium has been constructed at a cost of Rs. 11 lakhs and is equipped with all the facilities required for various exercises.

NDMC Chairperson Sindhushree Khullar will also be present on the occasion.

Workshop on disaster management

NEW DELHI: Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit has urged disaster management agencies to develop appropriate strategies to counter the fall-out of possible chemical attacks by terrorists.

Inaugurating a national workshop on "Chemical and Industrial Disaster Management" here, the Chief Minister said: "Chemicals being used by terrorists as a weapon is a very near reality and we have to find ways to tackle the imminent menace."

Development meet at Mewat

NEW DELHI: The US-based Sehgal Foundation and the Delhi-based Society for All Round Development jointly organised a day-long workshop at Mewat in neighbouring Haryana recently to facilitate a dialogue between those working in the field of development and the people of Mewat.

During the workshop, participants dealt with a variety of issues ranging from rural development to public participation. All of them agreed that education, water conservation and technical knowledge were essential for sustainable development.

Sentenced for rape

NEW DELHI: A city court today sentenced a man to seven years rigorous imprisonment for kidnapping and raping a minor, whom he had allegedly married. The incident had occured in May 2000 in Navi Karim area of Old Delhi.
