Registration of vehicles at dealership level sought

Staff Reporter

The system is in vogue in Delhi and Rajasthan

  • Automobile dealers say new vehicles get damaged in transit
  • Damages to new luxury cars can prove to be a costly affair for car dealers

BANGALORE: The Federation of Automobile Dealers' Associations (FADA), which is all set to start a Karnataka chapter, will appeal to authorities in the Transport Department to permit registration of vehicles at dealership level.

"This will be helpful to dealers as it will save them from the hassle of taking the vehicle to the office of the Regional Transport Officer (RTO) for registration.

"In many cases, the vehicles get damaged (while being taken for registration) even before they are delivered to the customer and the dealer has to bear the cost as no customer will agree to take the vehicle with dents or scratches," association president Binod Agarwal said here on Thursday.

In an interaction with automobile dealers of the city, Mr. Agarwal said: "Especially in a city like Bangalore, where a large number of premium cars are sold and where traffic is chaotic, there is great risk in sending the vehicles to RTO for registration." "It will be helpful to dealers if the registration is done at their offices. Such a system is working in Delhi and Rajasthan. We have requested the Union Transport Secretary to modify the Central Motor Vehicle Rules (CMVR) to enable registration at the dealership level throughout the country," Mr. Agarwal said. At the meeting, which was organised by Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI), the association's former president Ajit Chordia said automobile dealers in the city could form a new body under the aegis of FKCCI.

"It is better to have an organisation to get your problems solved and to exchange ideas," he said.
