TFA records win over Army XI

BANGALORE: Tata Football Academy (TFA) made a winning start in the Super league stage of the second division with a solitary goal win over Army XI (Delhi). At the Football Stadium here on Tuesday, even as the rains came down heavily for most of the first session, the youthful exuberance of the Jamshedpur-based lads showed out.

In Noaba Singh and Robert Lalthalma, the TFA has two workhorses and the duo never looked tired. But Vimal Pariyar of whom much was expected looked far from his best while Lestor Mark Fernandes as a medio was good only in patches.

The strike from Satish Kumar in the 24th minute did enable TFA to open up play. A quickly taken flag-kick from Noaba saw Satish effect a curling chip from the top of the box that sailed over Robikanta Singh under the Army citadel and into the net.

At the other end, Army XI seemed to hold back much in contrast to coach Stanley Rozario's pre-match comment. A close miss in the dying minutes of the first half and a feigning injury by Nguerilal only earned him a yellow.

The three points earned here however should give the needed fillip to the TFA boys to strive for success against the other tougher teams.
