Letters to the Editor
This refers to the report "Protect fatwa-separated couple: court" (April 22). The case of Nazma Biwi of Bhadrak, Orissa, whose husband pronounced triple talaq in a drunken state because of which local clerics issued a fatwa ordering the couple to live separately, is unfortunate. That the fatwa was issued despite Nazma's husband wanting to live with her makes matters worse. The Supreme Court's direction to the Orissa Government is significant and brings hope for women of the Muslim community.
Sushmitha Sekhar,
* * * The strong willed couple deserve praise for winning a determined battle to live together. But the disturbing question is how long can people's lives be controlled by fanatical codes in the name of religion.
Subhasish Mohanty,
