CHENNAI: The Sembium police claimed to have busted a gang involved in circulating fake notes in the denomination of Rs. 100. Two persons were arrested in this connection on Tuesday and remanded to judicial custody. According to police, Ratnavel, a vegetable merchant in Perambur preferred a complaint that one Pandey Sharma of the same area had given him a hundred rupee note, which he said was not a genuine one. Following this the Sembium police arrested Pandey Sharma and his brother, Mahendra Sharma.
Fake notes from Mumbai
Preliminary investigation revealed that they got the fake rupee notes from Mumbai. The police are on the look-out for the persons who distributed the duplicate notes to the brothers. A senior police officer said the brothers circulated the fake notes among liquor and vegetable shops. They seized a few duplicate hundred rupee notes from Pandey Sharma and Mahendra Sharma. Police said that they are investigating the matter.
