NEW DELHI : Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Tuesday presented the `Woman Exemplar' awards to three outstanding women in the areas of primary education, health and micro finance. Sangeeta Pardhe of Pune in Maharashtra, Raj Rani of Gurgaon in Haryana and Vanita Jalinder Pise of Satara in Maharashtra received the awards, instituted jointly by the Confederation of Indian Industry and Bharti Enterprises, at the CII annual conference inaugurated by Dr. Singh here. Ms. Pardhe provided healthcare to nearly a thousand women, girls and infants, while Ms. Raj Rani addressed around 1,000 women's reproductive health issues. Ms. Pise made innovative efforts, involving women in production and sale of paper cups, an income-generating project. "The award is called `Exemplar' because the awardees are true role models, who will ignite the spirit of community service in all of us, especially women," Sunil Mittal of Bharati Enterprises said while introducing the awardees. The awards were instituted last year.
