Hyderabad: Reigning champions Ram Kumar and T. Siva are among the 16 teams entered for the National Hobie 16 championships-cum-selection trials to be held at Rushikonda Bay, Visakhapatnam, from April 30 to May 6. Also in the fray are Naresh Yadav and B.B. Parikh, who finished fourth in the Asian sailing championships in Doha, Qatar, last month. The week-long meet will be jointly organised by the Artillery Water Sports Association and the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh under the aegis of the Yachting Association of India (YAI). It is open to clubs affiliated to the YAI and the National Hobie Class Association (NHCA), according to C.S. Pradipak, vice-president, NHCA and International Juror (IJ). A fee of Rs. 5,500 will be charged for each entry, including a refundable damage deposit of Rs. 2,500. Entries must reach Captain Utpal More, secretary, NHCA, Artillery Centre, Ibrahimbagh P.O., Golconda, Hyderabad on or before April 20, Ph: 9441407333 or 040-23518219, Ext: 5268, fax: 040-3512669, e-mail: nhca@rediffmail.com. Organising a meet of this scale can be a logistical nightmare, but More is hopeful that sponsorship for the meet, watched by thousands of tourists and visitors, will materialise shortly. The Hobie 16 is a twin-hull double-hander, fast growing in popularity worldwide for its easily handling and high safety features.
