Minister promises Government Order on change in name of Infantry Road

Demands
  • Drop plan to include egg in mid-day meal scheme in schools
  • Rename after Bhagawan Mahaveer one of the four trains from Karnataka to Rajasthan
  • Implement Supreme Court directive against cow slaughter

BANGALORE: Infantry Road was renamed Bhagawan Mahaveer Road nearly three years ago, but it is only The Hindu , which has its office on the road, that has adapted the change in the official address. For everybody else, including certain Government offices, it continues to be Infantry Road.

This was one of the points raised at a function held in the city to mark the 2605th "jayanti" of Bhagawan Mahaveer, 24th Thirthankara who took Jainism to new heights as a religion.

City Police Commissioner Ajai Kumar Singh flagged off the World Peace March from Puttannachetty Town Hall. It wound its way to the Government Arts College grounds, touching the City Market area, where the community has always has a dominant presence.

There were 12 tableaux on the theme of the last Jain Thirthankara, Bhagawan Mahaveer, and his teachings.

Science and Technology Minister Ramachandra Gowda, who came in place of Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, said he would immediately talk to the latter and ensure that a Government Order was issued so that the change in the name of Infantry Road became official.
