FOR THE WANNABE fashion designer, a diploma from a reputed institute is a big bonus. The Pearl Academy of Fashion will offer 13 degree and diploma programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the areas of Fashion Design, Textile Design, Communication Design, Fashion Merchandising and Production, Jewellery Design, Fashion Retail and Merchandising, Fashion Design Indian Wear, Garment Manufacturing, and Fashion Merchandising. The All-India Entrance Test for all its programmes will be conducted simultaneously on June 4 at seven centres in the country and Bangalore is one of them. The last date for submission of forms is May 27. The entrance test will be followed by a situation test, group discussion and a panel interview. Application forms for the various programmes offered by the academy are available at Shrishti School of Art, Design and Technology, Yelahanka, Banglore. Through validation agreements with the UK's Nottingham Trent University (NTU), and Germany's LDT, Nagold, the academy provides an opportunity for students to earn the B.A (Hons) Degree in Fashion and Design related subjects from the Nottingham Trent University, UK.
Campus recruitment
Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) and MeritTrac Services Pvt. Ltd, a skills assessment firm, have launched a joint novel initiative called VTracU to enhance the employability of VTU students. There will be a series of live sessions using VTU-EDUSAT network consisting of pre-placement talks by companies, assessments, orientation and final interview/on-campus selection by the participating companies for the assessed students. The programme will cater to students of IV, VI and VIII semester students, according to VTU Vice-Chancellor K. Balaveera Reddy.
Acharya Habba
The "Acharya Habba" organised by the city-based Acharya Institutes is nearing its finale. The festivities, which began on March 23, will end on the night of April 7. As part of the fest, the 120-acre Acharya institutes campus has come alive with banners, flags and cut-outs. An estimated 800 students comprising 20 teams and 50 individual performers are participating in the on and off stage events. On the agenda for Thursday are Dollu Kunitha, Classical Dance, Mad-Ads and a performance by "Thermal and A Quarter." Friday will feature a performance by NRI students, a special skit and a fashion show, besides a dance competition.
Appointed
D. Sarvothama Kamath, Professor, Department of Performing Arts, has been appointed as Director of the Prasaranga Printing Press, attached to the Bangalore University.
International symposium
The P.E.S. Institute of Technology (PESIT) has organised an international symposium on "applications of optimisation techniques to product and process design" on April 10 and 11 on its campus here. The symposium will have presentations from internationally renowned academics and practitioners of optimisation. The symposium will be a rigorous technical experience with intensive presentations, interactions and academic deliberations, according to the organisers.
