Some film, some music, some controversy

NEW DELHI: The audio release of the Bollywood film "Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna" was held at Ambassador Hotel here on Wednesday.

Newcomer Vvek has composed music for the film that basically has just one song which has been stretched out to include narration. "The remix music based on the song from `Chalte Chalte' was composed to give the movie a flow," said Biswaroop Roy Chowdhury, founder of Mind's I Films, at a press conference here. Biswaroop, touted as the country's strongest memory man and author of best-selling books on memory power, also stars in the film.

Kumar Sanu has sung the title song. The album also features a track by Bant Singh, a Dalit singer who was physically incapacitated by higher caste landlords in Punjab.

Daler Mehndi, who was the chief guest and the prime attraction, made a quick exit after lighting the ceremonial lamp. Also present at the function was former CBI Director Joginder Singh. "It's wonderful to do anything that helps in the improvement of one's memory. I've known Biswaroop for a long time and I know that this movie will help students," he said.

The movie has already gained mileage due to a tussle over rights to the name of the film. Mind's I Films under Biswaroop had registered the title of the movie with the Registrar of the Trade Marks Department under the Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry in May 2005. "Only the Trade Marks Department has the right to register the name of a product or even a film in this country," explained Biswaroop.

Film director Karan Johar has also chosen the same title for his forthcoming movie that is scheduled for an August release. Biswaroop contends that Karan is "continuing filming of his movie despite being sent first a legal notice".

"This is not a publicity stunt," he says. "I too am a fan of Karan Johar and would like to see his next film. I hope it releases soon, but under a different name."
