Students condemn indiscriminate planting of landmines by the United National Liberation Front

NEW DELHI:
Over 300 Manipuri students on Wednesday staged a protest here, seeking action against perpetrators of human rights violations in the State.
Around 11 a.m., they gathered at Jantar Mantar and marched towards the Parliament Street Police Station. On being stopped there, they tried to break a barricade.
Carrying placards, they raised slogans against human rights violations by the United National Liberation Front and Kangleipak Communist Party. They also condemned the indiscriminate planting of landmines by these groups. The protesters sought the Union Government's intervention.
Charge against police
The students alleged that the Manipur police were not taking action against those who had assaulted several women in a village recently. They sought harsh punishment for those violating human rights.
Around 12.30 p.m., the police permitted a few protesters to submit a memorandum at the Prime Minister's Office.
