Feast of European films

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala State Chalachitra Academy and the Kerala State Film Development Corporation, in association with the European Union, is organising a film festival at Kala Bhavan here from April 4 to 11.

The festival showcases a package of 17 films from different member-States.

All films have been widely acclaimed in Europe and awarded prestigious prizes in recent years.

By presenting a selection of modern European films to the Indian public, the festival aims at projecting the excellence of the European film art, contributing to the understanding and appreciation of film cultures and promotion of mutual understanding, friendship and cooperation among Indian and European citizens.

The festival is composed of a bouquet of films that reflects the vividness of the cultural streams of Europe and the stories that describe the European life in a certain socio-economic and cultural environment.

Started in 1986, the festival has been organised every two years by the Delegation of the European Commission, in collaboration with the EU Member States Missions in India and the Directorate of Film Festivals under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

The films to be screened at Kala Bhavan are Topsy Turvy, Kebab Connection, Under the Stars, Cheese and Jam, The Cistern, Escape to Budin, Guarded Secrets, Kolya, Dog Nail Clipper, The Soul's Haven, Viper in the Fist, My Russia, Squint Your Eyes, The Murmuring Coast, Gille's Wife and Zus&Zo.
