Bangalore: The University of Applied Sciences in Hof, Bavaria (Germany) is keen on enrolling students from India, especially Bangalore. This university is located 300 km north of Munich. The Fachhochschule Hof, president Jurgen Lehmann told reporters here on Friday that its unique Masters' course in Software Engineering for Industrial Applications will be of interest to computer engineering graduates from Bangalore.
Training and projects
After classes in theory, there are training assignments and projects with German industries. The stipends they pay are normally enough to carry an Indian student through the second year of course. German industries now face a shortage of graduate engineers and placements will be easy, he said. "We are also involved in information technology-related research in a big way and will like to collaborate with Indian universities and organisations. The university was started in 1994 and currently has 1,800 students. Undergraduate courses are practically free now but tuition fees of 500 euros each semester may be high for Indian students, Dr. Lehmann said. At the Master's level, the industry partnership helps in meeting most expenses of students, coming to 400 euors to 500 euros a month. The university is also looking at mutual exchange of students and faculty if the "right match" can be found, he said. There exists vast potential for collaborative research and details may be worked out and some agreements signed when an official Bavarian delegation visits India end of October. Faculty head Ralph Lano, who earlier spent one year at the IISc. as a research associate, said Masters courses, which were taught in English, posed no difficulties for Indian students. The university also helps with classes in conversational German.
